Course Description

This course is concerned with the challenges that public administrators face in unionized workplaces. The course aims to answer the following questions: What are the causes and consequences of unionization in the public sector? How are collective bargaining agreements negotiated and implemented? How do politics influence public sector labor relations? This course covers the development of public sector labor unions, the collective bargaining process, strikes, and impasse resolutions.
